#BLKPWRD CAMPAIGN

LOS ANGELES — B.L.A.C.K. A.F. is launching a new podcast, aimed at boosting Black non-profits that are currently active in creating positive change within the Black community. The #BLKPRWD campaign will feature 12 Black non-profits, the first of which is Atlanta-based Project 31, a group that works to support and empower young women of color in Black communities across the country.

The podcast will be available on all major music streaming platforms and youtube @moonshynetv. The podcast, starting February 1, 2021, will bring fans together to debate and go geek over their favorite anime, movies, comic books and video games from a Black perspective.

“The biggest comic-book companies have a plethora of black characters that are underrepresented in the comics and related movies and video games,” Alexander Assefa of B.L.A.C.K. A.F. said. “We will bring some of them to the forefront on our podcast and the related art while we are using their underdog status to bring a new way of looking at the work of our featured non-profits.”

A Podcast with a Fundraising Twist
Each month, the #BLKPWRD crowdfunding campaign will highlight the featured non-profits’ projects. The show will amplify the non-profit’s message by visually linking current comic book characters of color to the work of the featured non-profit on T-shirts designed by Black independent artists who creatively support these just causes. During the weekly virtual live podcast, fans and listeners will have the chance to win these custom-designed shirts through a raffle, with proceeds going toward each non-profit. The goal is to create the synergy of black art, creating black business, to support a black cause.

The effects of COVID and social injustice throughout 2020 continue to impact Black Lives, not only in the United States, but around the world. B.L.A.C.K. A.F. was created to promote acceptance and support for dialogue within communities of color. 2020 has altered the path, but the goal has not changed. B.L.A.C.K. A.F. is curating #BLKPWRD, a campaign to turn a few of the negatives from 2020 into positives. A passion project of Alexander Assefa and Brian Bush, executive producers of Eklectik Events that specializes in live events that centralizes the conversation around all forms of mainstream fiction.
